During my visit to the Welcome Collection Museum, I was impressed by the exhibition "The Cult of Beauty". The exhibition explored the understanding and transformation of beauty through the lens of different time periods, races, and genders, and included comparisons of beauty equipment from ancient times to the present day, as well as art installations from multiple perspectives: olfactory, tactile, and visual.
How has the definition of beauty changed over time and culture? Looking at beauty instruments and art installations from ancient and modern times, I reflect on how standards of beauty change over time and cultural contexts. How do we define beauty in today's context of social media and new technologies? Will it become more diverse as a result? Or is it bound by consumerism? The display of social media and AI technology in the exhibition triggered me to think deeply about the pursuit of beauty in modern society and the irony behind it.
Through the combination of interactive installations and social issues, the exhibition expresses a critical understanding of beauty, allowing the audience to reflect on their own situation and that of others in the process of interaction. In addition, the exhibition points out that the pursuit of beauty is often tied to social issues such as racism, which makes me think about how to explore these complex social relationships in my work.
