To align with my design theme, I experimented with using transparent acrylic combined with different colors of PVC. The transparent acrylic represents the flow of information in the virtual world, where data continuously moves but lacks a tactile element, reflecting the intangible nature of the digital world. In contrast, linoleum symbolizes the sense of touch in the natural world. This combination explores whether these materials can create harmony or tension.
In practice, I first combined wood and linoleum, then cut a 2mm hole in the surface and embedded different colored PVC pieces along with a transparent acrylic sheet. The result was visually and tactically effective, but I realized the color of the transparent PVC needs further adjustment to better express the contrast in my design concept.
Reflections:
1. Color choice: Are the selected colors clearly communicating the contrast between the virtual world and natural touch? Do I need to further study the emotional and sensory impact of colors?
2.Material harmony: Is the combination of acrylic and linoleum convincing enough? Does this contrast clearly represent the differences between the virtual and physical worlds, or could it confuse the audience? Can the physical and visual transitions between the materials be improved?
Plan:
1.Adjust colors: Continue adjusting the color of the transparent PVC, testing different combinations to ensure they better represent the virtual world’s qualities.
2.Optimize material combination: Further test how acrylic and linoleum fit together, especially exploring whether UV glue or a snap-fit method would create smoother transitions between the materials.
