For this prototype, I used the CNC machine to cut a circular disc shape. Since I was using MDF (medium-density fiberboard), it needed to be secured with wood glue and left to set overnight to ensure stability. The actual CNC cutting began the following day.
During the process, I not only focused on the main surface of the disc but also gave special attention to the design of the base. The base affects both the overall aesthetic and the stability of the piece. I considered how to enhance the design of the base to add visual interest while also improving the sturdiness of the disc.
Conclusion:
How can I balance functionality and aesthetics? When designing the base, I need to ensure that it adds visual appeal without compromising the stability or functionality of the piece.
Is MDF the right material? While MDF is easy to cut and work with, will its weight and stability meet the needs of my design?
CNC cutting precision: Can the CNC achieve the level of precision needed for more complex shapes? If not, do I need to adjust the design accordingly?
Next, I plan to conduct some small-scale tests on different base structures to determine the best solution, ensuring that the design is both visually appealing and functional in terms of stability.
