Ceramic workshop
I created several ceramic pieces (porcelain) and carved structured patterns on their surfaces based on the project’s key concepts. These patterns were intended to express the contrast between the digital world and physical touch. In this experiment, I stacked the ceramic pieces and attempted to embed linoleum into the gaps between them.
During the experiment, I focused on several key aspects:
Is the physical bond between the ceramic and linoleum strong? Can the edges of the two materials be seamlessly connected without visible gaps?
Does the difference in texture between linoleum and ceramic create a noticeable contrast when combined? Does either material diminish the tactile experience of the other?
Can this combination of materials remain durable in practical use? Will the embedded linoleum loosen or wear out over time?
Test Results:
The porcelain pieces, after being fired, turned out to be fairly white in color, with a thickness of about 3mm. However, during the drying process, the ceramic pieces tended to crack easily, making further processing difficult. Additionally, the bond between the two materials was poor, with weak edge connections that were prone to coming apart.
So I decided to abandon the combination of ceramic and linoleum, as the materials did not meet the desired level of practicality and bonding strength.
